In Defense of the Miss Morocco 2017 Contestants
Author: Ghita Benslimane
Date: December 26, 2016
Summary: This article was written by a Moroccan woman who questions why people attack eachother for their looks, and is dissapointed by what happens online. On facebook, pictures of the Miss Morocco 2017 contestants were posted. These pictures of the women recieved numerous hateful comments, comparing one of the women to camel, saying another woman has too long of a neck, etc. And a large amount of the people online saying stuff, were women themselves. The pictures were soon deleted, probaly for the amount of these comments. The author states that a woman's worst enemy is another woman and that a woman's best ally can also be another woman. The author hopes that one day, as a society we can one day understand that we're really stronger when we support eachother and lift eachother up rather than criticize and bring eachother down.
Analysis: After reading this article the thing that stuck out to me was when the author said that a woman's greatest enemy is another woman. I don't understand why women bring each other down. If a woman is criticizing someone else then that probalbly means they've been put down themselves. If that's true, they know how it feels to be put down, so why would they want to put someone else through that?? And it's also sad to me how all these people were saying stuff online to the Miss Morocco contestants. It must feel like a punch in the gut when you're getting recognized for something you're passionite about and all these people attack you for something as little and stupid as how you look. It makes me feel bad for the contestants.
Culture Connection: This connects to culture because it shows how Moroccan people treat eachother online.
